It's the NDP on the country's 42th birthday.
Perhaps to most NSF/NsMen... they would dread this day.
and perhaps sum overgrown men feel this day sucks big time...
I ain't sum patriotic ass when i typed this blog...
but i must say, 4 things which i did this month did lift the patriotic spirit...
or least, to celebrate for Singapore too.
1. As I take the cab along the ECP, from Changi Airport to town...
The greenery in Singapore, the common scenes, the tranquility, the feeling of home.
(Whenever I am feeling low, I look around me and I know, there's a place that will stay within me, wherever i may choose to go...)
2. The fireworks on NDP...
Why did God intervene the invention of fireworks? It's pointless. Burning things up in the sky.
Wasting money and polluting the air. But i guess the purpose of it is the awesomeness sight of colours in the dark sky.
3. The flag..
What is the purpose of a flag? Why the design of the flag? Identity? Allowing it to fly in the air... Soaring... Quite a soothing feeling when you claim ownership/affliation of the flying flag.
4. Why the hassle of going thru all this NDP for just one stupid national holiday?
It is our country. And it's the soldiers who protect it. Everyone on this land has a duty. Just as Cecil told me, the kids on the grand stand were all so excited and happy to see the soldiers that they cheered and clapped. When we think of things in simplicity. Yes, who else? what else to celebrate? Yes, rehearsals after rehearsals... but ultimately, to show to the world that Singapore can do their best and will flaunt their colours in the sky.
Try digesting the songs like [Home] and this year's [There's no place I'd rather be]...
and you'll understand why it's for the NDP...
I've walked the streets of Cairo and Bombay
I've seen the lights of ole Broadway
I've climbed the Eiffel Tower
The Great Wall in one hour
Experienced sweet and sour but that's okay
Seen Hollywood, the sunsets in LA
The London Bridge, Big Ben, The Thames, UK
I've crossed the River Kwai
Yet still I don't know why
I think of you each night and every day
There's no place I'd rather be
You'll always be a part of me
And even though I've roamed the world
It's still it's home I long to see
This is where my family
And my friends grew up with me
So I'll cross the skies and sail the seas
To be where I wanna be
Cos there's no place I'd rather be!
